Vers le Tchad – Paramount
The Odyssey of the “Jean Casale” and the “Roland Garros”
Lithographic poster – Duval & Bedos, Paris – 1920s
This rare poster celebrates one of the great aviation films of the interwar period: Vers le Tchad, an exceptional documentary dedicated to the trans-African mission linking Paris to Lake Chad. Distributed by Paramount, the film follows the journey of two giant Blériot 115 aircraft, named “Jean Casale” and “Roland Garros”, as they crossed Europe, the Sahara, and West Africa to reach French Equatorial Africa.
Created from footage shot by photographer Maxime Dely, the film offers spectacular aerial views of the desert, the Niger River, and remote villages, interwoven with scenes of daily life and early ethnographic observation. It stands today as a valuable document of 1920s nonfiction cinema and of the pioneering spirit that defined the era of early long-distance flight.
Printed by Duval & Bedos in Paris, the poster features bold graphics and the distinctive style of major cinematic lithographs of its time. Extremely rare, it remains a highly sought-after piece for collectors of aviation history and early advertising art.
