Original poster project for Rolex Submariner, 1959
Oil on panel, 100 × 140 cm
An exceptional and unique piece, representing one of the earliest advertising projects created for the Rolex Submariner, the legendary model introduced in 1953.
The Rolex model depicted in this poster project is the 5510 / 5512.
Signed by Swiss graphic designer Michel Péclard, a notable figure in Swiss design of the 1950s and 1960s, it predates the printed poster by Haefeli & Co., La Chaux-de-Fonds, which has become extremely rare on the market.
Against an intense blue background, a stylized red fish stages the watch and its technical promise:
“Guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 200 m”
A true manifesto of the International Swiss Style, this composition combines graphic minimalism with symbolic power. A key work linking art and watchmaking communication, it bears witness to the spirit of innovation that forged Rolex’s reputation and the identity of post-war Swiss graphic design.
A work of museum-level importance, extremely rare on the market; the earliest known state of the celebrated Submariner poster.
