Very rare vintage Rolex Poster

A remarkable Rolex advertising poster combining the elegance of Swiss watchmaking with the world of motor racing.

Against a graduated green and ivory background, crowned by the Rolex name and its iconic emblem, an Oyster Perpetual wristwatch on a leather strap dominates the composition. Its black dial features the distinctive layout now known as the “California” dial: Roman numerals in the upper half, Arabic numerals in the lower half, geometric hour markers and a triangle at twelve o’clock.

Advertised as “Error-Proof,” this dial illustrates the emphasis Rolex placed on legibility. The advertising text also highlights automatic winding, resistance to shocks and vibrations, and chronometric precision.

Three stylised racing cars enliven the lower section of the poster, associating the watch with speed and performance. Their movement contrasts with the monumental presence of the Oyster Perpetual, creating a striking composition in a refined colour palette.

An appealing example of Rolex advertising from the early 1940s, bringing together three collecting fields: vintage posters, horology and automobilia.
