History of the C.I.J.

The Industrial Toy Company (CIJ) is a manufacturer of miniature toys created in 1920 by Fernand Migault (rue de la Roquette in Paris).

Faced with the success of the "Compagnie Industrielle du Jouet" and the need to expand, Fernand Migault, a good salesperson and manager, joined forces with his cousin Marcel Gourdet, an excellent technician, who ran a boilermaking workshop, route d ' Ousson in Briare, and thus founded Établissements Migault SA in 1927.

In 1929 the factory on the route d'Ousson was destroyed, the victim of a fire. This is the moment when the descendants of Jean-Félix Bapterosses take control of the company.

The head office is transferred from rue d'Hauteville in Paris to the Briare enamels building. The company employed a hundred or so employees.
During the 1939-1940 war, the factory had to be reconverted to manufacture gas masks.
On December 27, 1964, a new factory was inaugurated on Boulevard Loreau in Briare.

However the CIJ company disappears in 1967, shortly after having bought the stocks of the JRD company which it will sell by mixing the parts with its own manufacture. The factory was then taken over by an ITT subsidiary to manufacture dials, while artisanal toy manufacturing still continued to exist on the Rivotte estate, also belonging to the Bapterosses family.

Agreements
Under the agreements signed with André Citroën in 1922, the company exclusively manufactures sheet metal and wooden toys at 1 / 10th, including the 5 CV Trèfle and the B14 Citroën. These miniatures were distributed by Citroën dealers.

However, the ICJ was prohibited from citing the mark in its advertisements. The tuning and manufacture of Citroën miniatures ceased in 1934 following the bankruptcy of this company and when the Michelin family took control of Citroën.
A more flexible agreement was later made with Louis Renault and many models of Renault miniature vehicles, in lithographed sheet metal and zamak in scales ranging from 1 / 10th to 1 / 43rd, were produced.

However, the ICJ must now sell its production itself. This agreement will be denounced when the Renault Dauphine is released because the CIJ model comes out too late and also presents quality problems (the first version of the Dauphine is in lithographed sheet metal, the second with glazing).
In the 1950s, a new agreement was made with Shell which would produce miniatures of gas stations and the Shell Berre van in zamac (an alloy of aluminum, copper, zinc and magnesium).
