ITALIA – LLOYD TRIESTINO – ADRIATICA – TIRRENIA

Original Italian Shipping Poster – 1939

Superb original Italian shipping poster created to promote the major maritime companies Italia, Lloyd Triestino, Adriatica and Tirrenia.

The composition features four monumental ocean liners advancing across a stylized globe, each associated with a large maritime flag. The dramatic low-angle perspective emphasizes the power, scale and modernity of the ships, perfectly reflecting the international ambitions of Italian merchant shipping at the end of the 1930s.

The design is highly characteristic of Italian graphic art of the period, combining simplified forms, strong volumes, bold colours and geometric typography. The result is a striking synthesis of travel poster, maritime promotion and modernist design.

At the bottom, the poster bears the publishing reference for Edizioni Propaganda Italia – Lloyd Triestino – Adriatica – Tirrenia, together with the name of the Milanese printer Pizzi & Pizio. The design is known with the printing date 3-1939-XVII, corresponding to March 1939.

This poster is an important visual document from the golden age of Italian ocean travel, when the great shipping companies and their liners represented prestige, technological progress and international mobility.

A spectacular and highly decorative image, particularly appealing to collectors of ocean liners, travel posters, Italian graphic design, maritime history and 1930s design.
