The History of Motor Shows in Italy from the Beginnings to the Second World War
The Italian Motor Show began in Turin in April 1900 (dates recorded as 1–24 or 21–24). Milan followed in 1901 with the 1st International Automobile and Cycle Exhibition, while Turin hosted the 1st International Automobile Exhibition in 1904.
From 1905 to 1907, Turin held the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions, then alternated with Milan.
In 1911, a special unnumbered edition celebrated the Unification of Italy.
After the war, Milan revived the "Motor Show" from 1920 to 1922.
In 1928, the adoption of the international calendar necessitated a renumbering (a new "I"), before protests in 1936–1937 aligned the numbering to XXXI, to catch up with Paris, London, and Berlin.
A foundational saga for Italian industry.
