The SS Rotterdam is a Dutch transatlantic liner built for the Holland America Line in 1959 (year of commissioning). She is the company's fifth ship to bear the name Rotterdam. It is distinguished by its particular silhouette with no chimney.
The ship was quickly withdrawn from transatlantic service and devoted to cruises. In 1997, she was sold to Premier Cruises Lines, which renamed her Rembrandt. He served under this name until 2000, when the company went bankrupt. It was brought back to Europe and then restored after several years of waiting. Since February 2010, it has become a floating museum and hotel in Rotterdam.
The ss Rotterdam is a 238 meter long ship. It was designed to accommodate 1456 passengers and be served by 776 crew members. It is the largest liner made in the Netherlands. She is nicknamed the “Grande Dame” (in French).
It is moored in the Maashaven harbor basin of the Port of Rotterdam. It houses hotel rooms, convention halls, restaurants and cafes. Boat tours are organized for tourists.
