First poster of the Festival de Cannes 1939, following the declaration of war the festival was postponed in 1946. In June 1939, Louis Lumière agrees to be the first president of the Festival to be held from 1 to September 30 . He was declared to ''encourage the development of cinematography in all its forms and to create among the countries producing films a spirit of collaboration''
1 September, War day of the official opening, German troops entered Poland, thus putting an end to this first edition of a festival stillbirth, September 3, the declaration of War from France and the United Kingdom to Germany.
The first full edition of the Festival takes place after the war, from 20 September to 5 October 1946 in old Casino of Cannes. In 1946, the Festival had been a success and looked forward to film the next edition of 1947.
It is a very rare and has not found today!
