LE FRANCE – 1974

Large-format photographic print on Canson paper

Exceptional large-format 1974 photographic print depicting the legendary French ocean liner Le France, one of the great symbols of French maritime elegance and engineering of the twentieth century.

The liner appears in an atmospheric harbour scene, emerging through the haze behind a working vessel in the foreground. The composition creates a striking impression of depth and scale, emphasizing the monumental proportions of Le Franceand its unmistakable silhouette, dominated by its characteristic red-and-black funnels.

Printed on Canson paper, this large-format edition has a particularly evocative, almost pictorial quality. The soft tones, atmospheric light and slightly grainy texture give the image the appearance of a period artwork rather than a conventional documentary photograph.

Launched in 1960 and placed into service in 1962, Le France became the flagship of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and an international symbol of French luxury, design and technological ambition. By 1974, the liner had already become an icon of transatlantic travel and of the golden age of the great passenger ships.
