Emile DeCoeur Earthenware France Circa 1908 Emile DeCoeur was commissioned in 1908 to produce five of the objects for Paul Moreau-Vauthier , who was sculptor for the original bronze in 1903.
DeCoeur was a French ceramicist who created this work in two pieces, the body of the race car separating to expose an oblong, cigarette or candy compartment.
Made of earthenware, the object is glazed inside with low-luster glaze finish on the exterior. The car represents the Mors driven by Gabriel in the Paris-Madrid race in 1903.
This ceramic that we present is the number 1 of an edition supposed to be five copies.
Only one known specimen in a private collection in the USA is listed as number 5, the others have never been found.
Only two copies are known to date.
