Maurice Alexandre Osmond

The sculpture is signed “M. Osmond.” Bonhams’ specialist catalogues identify the artist by his full name, Maurice Alexandre Osmond.

Biographical information about the sculptor remains relatively scarce. The Musée d’Orsay heritage database records a sculptor named Maurice Osmond, born in La Meauffe, Manche, in 1875, and gives 1951 as the year of his death, without formally specifying the place. It also attributes to him a war memorial executed between 1920 and 1925.

Maurice Alexandre Osmond, French sculptor born in 1875, active during the first third of the twentieth century, and recorded by heritage sources as having died in 1951.

His known body of work includes decorative sculptures, bronzes, objets d’art and monumental commissions. Several works signed “M. Osmond” depict female figures, satyrs and decorative subjects, revealing a particular interest in allegorical themes and in sculpture conceived for the decorative arts.
