MERCIER JEAN ADRIEN

Jean-Adrien Mercier (August 12, 1899, Angers, the Maine-and-Loire-15 May 1995) is a French poster artist and illustrator. Former pupil of the Art schools of Angers then Art Deco, it begins his career with the poster of cinema and advertising executive, before becoming artistic director of the Cointreau house. In 1924, at the end of a contest, it carries out the poster of the first exhibition of Angers. From 1925 to 1939 it realizes more than 110 posters of cinema, working for the largest directors of the time: Jean Renoir, Abel Gance, Sacha Guitry... In parallel, it draws very many advertising bills, in particular for Cointreau, mark in which it will collaborate of 1925 to 1965.
