GUIMARD HectorHector Guimard (born in Lyon, March 10, 1867 and died in New York, May 20, 1942) was a French architect and the major representative of Art Nouveau in France.
In the international artistic movement of his time, Guimard was seen as a lone maverick: he left no disciple behind him, nor any school, and this is the reason why he was long considered a secondary actor in this movement. .
This absence of posterity contrasts with the formal inventiveness and the extraordinary typological profusion of his architectural and decorative work, where the architect gives the best of himself in fifteen years of intense creative activity.
In addition to the entrances to the Paris metro stations, the Castel Béranger and the Hôtel Guimard are the most accomplished achievements.
