DROPSY HENRY

DROPSY HENRY

French ( 1885 - 1969 )

In 1908 he was awarded the second Prix de Rome for engraving medals. In 1911, he graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was a pupil of his father Jean-Baptiste Émile Dropsy (1848-1923) and Thomas Injalbert, Vernon and Patey1. In 1914, it is silver and in 1921, gold medalist at the Salon of French artists. A travel grant is awarded him in 1922, allowing it to stay in Italy, Tunisia and Algeria. In 1929 he received the Medal of Honor at the Salon of French artists. From 1930 and for many years he served as professor of engraving medals at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, and in 1948-1949 he was a lecturer at the School of Fine Arts Cairo. He is also president of the union of artistic property. On January 17, 1942, he was elected member of the Academy of Fine Arts in the recording session, the chair of Louis-Alexandre Bottée2. Henry DROPSY, perhaps wanting to restore honor the principle dear to his ancestors, agreed to learn the trade of his father. At his father's workshop he was for years an apprentice engraver. Feeling also attracted by the medal, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he made a sound education. Student of Thomas Vernon, Injalbert and Patey, he won several awards and the first second Prix de Rome in 1908. He was twenty-three. After a fairly long period, divided by the war, he obtained a travel grant from the state in 1922. Today he is out of the competition and jury member for French artists. Henry Dropsy is in full force, though master of his thoughts, yet he tries again, it operates without regard to creating an entirely original. He even thinks that the artist has found an invoice, process, and there confined, not only demonstrated that powerlessness. What emerges clearly from its production already considerable, is Henri Dropsy has a talent very sure that he can overcome all obstacles. His works, under designs and different techniques are always fully realized. In vain we seek the smallest sign of weakness. In granting favors and applauded its success, the public does justice to its nature particularly well endowed and made his work of love and passion.
