The Golden Gate Quartet is an American gospel and negro spiritual vocal ensemble.
The Golden Gate Quartet, founded by four students (in Norfolk, USA) in 1934 as the Golden Gate Jubilee Singers, has been one of the main emblems and, due to its exceptional longevity, has profoundly marked the great history of African-American religious music.
After the war, called the Golden Gate Quartet, the group, now supplanted by new formations in the United States, exported gospel music to Europe. In 1955, during their first tour outside the United States, they performed at the Olympia in Paris, the city where the group finally settled in 1959.
In 1960, he played at the Casino de Paris with Line Renaud, in the hall was Elvis Presley, who had come specially from Germany on leave.
From 1965 to 1970, the group toured with Jacques Brel, Jean Ferrat and Sylvie Vartan.
