Engine N°A 518 and Magnesium drum brakes, Borani aluminium wheels, Smith race computer, chassis N°594
Designed by Giulio Carcano and Carlo Guzzi, this machine is the ultimate evolution of the 250cc which won three years ago the TT of the Isle of Man, also one of the only « non British » to dominate this event at the time.
Based on the factory version, of which it keeps the appendix of the housing for driving the compressor (or the dynamo on Albatros engaged in rally), it offers spectacular performances. Our copy is a piece of history of the Italian competition, ownership of the well-k
nown racer Edwin Bonguards. The Albatros was at the time of decisive importance in the history of Moto Guzzi. This moto is now in exceptional condition.
Motorcycle Guzzi 250 Albatrosses - 1939 A long and glorious lineage
In 1926, Moto Guzzi presented a superb 250 cc single-cylinder horizontal ACT competition that would go down in history. Refined over the years, it gave birth to the Albatross and Gambalunghino and remained the best in its class for thirty years. In 1935, she was, among other things, the first non-British 250 to win the famous Isle of Man TT.
For officials only Born with a three-speed gearbox, the 250 will be built in 377 examples, from 1926 to 1933, and sold to private pilots in its TT and SS versions.
In 1934, it acquired a fourth gear and an oscillating rear suspension, but was then reserved for the official drivers of the factory, which also developed a compressor and an injection-powered version.
A godsend for private drivers It wasn't until the arrival of the Albatross in 1939 that a 250 Guzzi race was once again offered to private drivers.
Designed by the combined talents of Carlo Guzzi and Giulio Carcano (the father of the Guzzi V8), the Albatros was based on the factory compressor version. It also retains the crankcase appendix used to drive the compressor, which will be used to drive a dynamo on Albatros entered in road rallies.
The Albatros did not disappear until 1949 when it was replaced by the Gambalunghino, very similar in its early days, but reserved for factory pilots.
