RARE FUTURIST ITALIAN MOTORCYCLE POSTER

Benelli was founded in 1911 in Pesaro by a mother (Teresa Benelli) and her sons Giuseppe, Giovanni, Francesco, Filippo, Domenico and Antonio aka “Tonino”. Teresa Benelli wanted her sons to have healthy jobs. So she put all the family savings to found the “Garage Benelli”, a car and motorcycle repair shop. Faced with the difficulty in obtaining parts to repair, they decide to manufacture these parts and acquire a certain notoriety.

In 1920, the company produced its first engine, a 75cc which fitted onto a bicycle frame. In 1921, she built her first motorcycle called Motoleggera, with a 98 cc engine, which was immediately appreciated by the public.

The enthusiasm was such that it was available in 150 and 175 cm3 versions. The latter will be successful in the Italian championship in 1927, 1928, 1930 and 1931, at the hands of Tonio. His career was unfortunately short, an accident put an end to it in 1932.

In 1936, the technicians developed a 250 which was a great commercial and sporting success.

In 1939, Ted Mellors won the Tourist Trophy riding a Benelli.
