ALFETTA 158 PROMOTIONAL EDITION IN 1948

The Alfa Romeo 158 and its derivative Alfa Romeo 159 (F1) are Formula 1 racing cars manufactured by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1938 to 1951, nicknamed "Alfetta" because of their reduced dimensions.

It is at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 158, that the Argentinian driver Juan Manuel Fangio realizes, on May 21, 1950, the first hat trick (pole position, fastest lap in the race and victory) in the history of Formula 1, from the second race of the World Championship, during the 1950 Monaco Automobile Grand Prix.

The Alfa 158 has a 1.5 liter engine with very high power, achieved by two Roots compressors. This racing car achieved a fabulous record between 1938 and 1950.

The Alfa Romeo 159 Alfetta is a Formula 1 single-seater manufactured by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo between 1950 and 1951. It naturally derives from the Alfa Romeo 158 which had dominated all the Grands Prix from the end of the Second World War until 'in 1950.

It takes almost everything from its ancestor with the exception of the rear suspensions which are of the De Dion type, a costly and complex solution but which the Milanese engineers know perfectly well and consider them essential to pass the engine power to the wheels.

First unveiled and entered into the race at the Italian Grand Prix on September 3, 1950, the last event of 1950, the 1,500cc inline eight-cylinder engine, powered by a two-stage Roots supercharger , develops 425 hp at 9,300 rpm.

The version entered the following year reached 450 hp at 9500 rpm at the Spanish Grand Prix1, the last and decisive race of 1951.

All the other characteristics of this exceptional single-seater represent a record, starting with its weight of only 710 kg, the weight / power ratio of 1.67 kg / hp, the fuel tank capacity of 350 liters and finally, its top speed of 305 km / h.
