June 18, 1911. No fewer than forty airmen took part in the European Circuit, this aviation event covering a total of some 1,600 kilometres, which started on Sunday, June 18, 1911, from the Vincennes manoeuvring area and gave rise to "Le Journal", a French daily newspaper of the time. Paris-Liège; Liège-Spa-Liège; Liège-Utrecht; Utrecht-Brussels; Bruxelles-Roubaix; Roubaix-Calais; Calais-London; London-Calais; Calais-Paris are the main stages of this competition: a race that will bring together airmen like Garros, Védrines, Weymann, Prévost... these latter pilots of monoplans, or Tabuteau on two levels. It was the aviator Vidart, who arrived first, who would win the very first stage, which unfortunately would be very deadly, the list of aviation victims being extended by three new names: in fact, the pilots Lemartin, Landron and Princeteau would lose their lives in an accident. Barely started and already bereaved, the race promises to be a very bad one.
